3G tariffs data usage high in India due to Major cut in prices


Major cellular operators, heavily slashed the 3G tariffs, have started reaping dividends, at least in the way of increased data usage, suggest latest estimates.
Cellular operators have slashed 3G tarrifs by 70-80 per cent in a bid to attract more smartphone users. The move has resulted in  72-75 per cent increase in data consumption, according to Tarun Pathak, analyst with Cyber Media Research (CMR).

Bharti Airtel was the first to slash 3G tariff by 70 per cent to be followed by Reliance and Vodafone, which cut its 3G tariff by 80 per cent. Even Idea Cellular has announced a cut in 3G tariffs.

 

Aircel offers 3G services at tariff said be one of the cheapest in the industry. Its tariff plan offers unlimited high-speed internet access at Rs 8 a day, which is only Rs 3 higher than existing 2G data plans.
